breasted women." Ladies don't need to worry about being spotted by friends and neighbors, the lady added, "because they will be wearing masks! No one will ever know who they really are!" That is of course, if they don't have any tattoos.
No Sewer System for La Mina. Residents of the La Mina community are still awaiting the installation
of a sewer system for their community. Meetings
were held over a year ago about providing decent
sewer and drainage systems for the La Mina community, which is just north of Rosarito, and three other neighboring communities including Santa Lucia. Jorge Ramos, former president of the state water company and mayor-elect of Tijuana, attended at one of these meetings. Organizers and officials planned to collect money from the government
and the community

to build this system. Even the EPA reportedly was going to contribute funds. A La Mina resident that the whole project seems to have been forgotten.
Honeydipper Truck Returns
to Rene's Bridge. The honey dipper truck, which was featured in a Gringo Gazette photo essay last year dumping its contents under Rene's Bridge, has been spotted again. Residents complained
about foul smells when crossing the bridge, and slimy green contaminated
water can be seen flowing under the bridge directly into the ocean. It is believed that the honey dipper trucks dump with the city's blessings, as they are too big not to be noticed by the regulations department.
TJ Garbage Comes to Rosarito. The Director of Rosarito's Public Services
department has recently
complained about a private garbage removal company that transports Tijuana trash to Rosarito and dumps it inside the Rosarito city limits. According
to Director, no one gave permission for these trucks to dump their Tijuana
trash in Rosarito. The Rosarito dump is behind the Sharp Industries facility
in the Lucio Blanco neighborhood, just north of Rosarito. Residents living
near the dump report fumes, toxic dust, kids getting
sick, and small animal fatalities, such as birds,
puppies, and kittens.
Furniture Sales Down. Rosarito's furniture manufacturers
association reported
at 60% drop in sales from the previous year. Handmade rustic furniture is a trademark of Baja. Popotla Boulevard, which runs south of Rosarito, is home to many fine furniture
stores and craftsmen. The furniture association has been trying to create a special mall to sell and display the wares. The Popotla Boulevard area has become a high-speed highway, and it is now difficult and dangerous for shoppers to stop and browse. Crime has also increased along the boulevard,
and car thefts and personal robberies have hurt the furniture business.
Electric Company Scam. Many Americans in Baja, outraged and confused by extremely high electric bills, are tossing about a theory that the electric meter readers are profiling them. People imagine that a little note is made on the meter reader's ticket, indicating
that a "person with means" (a.k.a. a Gringo) lives at the particular residence.
The code is then passed on to the electric company, which issues a super-bill. This theory is totally farfetched and ridiculous, but there still doesn't seem to be any adequate explanation as to why many Americans, many of whom spend only
weekends in Baja, are recipients
of huge electric bills.
Campaign Blues. Insiders say that Nacho Garcia, the PAN party candidate for mayor, who lost the August
5 election to PRI party candidate Hugo Torres, is very depressed. Rumors say that the PAN administrators
down at Rosarito's city hall are goofing off and not attending to their duties. Everyone is wondering,
when, if ever, the campaign posters, which are clinging in shreds to the city's fences, telephone and electrical poles, will ever be taken down.
What's up with Trump? People are beginning to wonder when the Trump Baja project will ever break ground. Supposedly, over 300 suites and condos have been sold, which would amount to a staggering 165 million dollars in sales. In June, the Trump Baja project sold even more units in their "Spa Towers" project. Still, people driving
by the beautiful condo site near Punta Bandera have yet to see any sign of the project beginning.
Dangerous Curves at Calafia. The Calafia road curve, just a few miles south of Rosarito, has long been the most treacherous part of the toll road. An
extreme no-shoulder curb has put motorists in danger for almost a year. Workers
are now beginning to fill parts of the sides of the roads with gravel, but other sections have been extended. Orange cones set out in a confusing pattern
greet motorists as they approach the Calafia condo construction site. It is difficult to understand which way the gesturing road crew wants you to turn. One wrong move, and you will go over a 10 foot dropoff.
Rusty Tanks. Someone has tossed huge rusting water tanks along the side of the highway just north of the Puerto del Mar community,
just north of La Mision. The beautiful drive is marred by the ssight of these huge discarded tanks. This spot is in the southern Rosarito area, but it is unknown whether the city public works department
is looking into the situation.
Animal Liberation Front Protests Circus. A colorful
group of young people came to Rosarito to protest the "Barney Circus" which is currently in town. Holding
banners and signs, the group of about 25 youngsters
were dressed in leather,
chains, and spiked haircontinued
